Our plan for this 2011 Fourth of July weekend is to get 20 miles of hiking in. We are getting a late start to the White Mountains on Saturday due to the last minute planning for this trip and, on a positive note, we were out to a lovely dinner with some friends in Portsmouth, NH last evening.
We hope to arrive in the Lincoln, NH (Loon Mountain) area by about 3:00 PM. Our plan is to make a short hike (a walk really, as it is flat) in the Lincoln Woods area. We'll plan on just 4 or 5 miles along the East branch of the Pemigewasset River.
On Sunday we will hike Mt Garfield. That will be about a 10 mile endeavor with 3,100' of vertical rise to an elevation of about 4,500'. This will allow us to bag another 4'000 footer (not that we are hikers who are all wrapped up in bagging these mountains).
We'll celebrate the fourth by hiking Cannon Mountain using the Lonesome Lake trail. This roundtrip will be about 6 miles with 2,350' of vertical rise.
Trip journals for the two mountain hikes will be posted in the next couple of days.
